Before the end of class today, find at least four sources on the subject you are researching for the Collaborative Research Project. Find:

one printed book
one article in a peer-reviewed, academic journal
one website
and at least one additional source of any type you choose.

Use a Word document to collect the citations for the sources you find. For each source, write a one-line annotation describing the content of the book/article/website.

Your research might start with a Google search or a Wikipedia entry, but these are only starting points. For books and journal articles, you'll need to go to the Parks Library website. Once you've found some relevant materials, you might even need to SET FOOT INSIDE THE LIBRARY (!) to get them.

When you've found at least four sources, click on "Reply" in this forum, then copy and paste the contents of your Word document into the text field.

Merlot's Journal for Online Learning and Teaching offers quite a few articles that might be useful. I can't find any sort of subscription/registration service, which seems odd, and you can't get copies at Parks. They do, however, offer PDFs of articles on their website.

"Student cheating and plagiarism in the Internet era: a wake-up call" by Ann Lathrop and Kathleen Foss, seems to be right on target for our group's research question. We can get a copy at Parks.

"Participant involvement in the development of an online learning community for future faculty" by Yaoling Wang, seems an interesting alternative to completing assignments online. Also available at Parks.

mygradebook.com is a product of Pearson Education, Inc., a large educational publisher, and seems similar to WebCT. I'm wondering if it might work more effectively at dissuading cheating ...

College Students Use of Social Networks - This site has plenty of potentially useful statistics on college students’ use of social networks, however, I haven’t deeply checked into the credibility of this source yet.

The Equivalence of Computer and Paper Testing by Alan Bugbee from the Journal of Research on Computer in Education, volume 28, number 3, is a research article about the early days of switching from paper-and-pen to computer testing.

“Education and Work for the Year 2000: Choices We Face” by Arthur G. Wirth is a book about the American education and work situation with an extensive section on computers in school and testing.

http://www.FairTest.org is an organization that works to end the errors in the testing systems, especially standardized tests. It contains a number of articles about online vs. pen-and-paper testing.

Computer Testing vs. Paper Testing is a research survey on computerized testing habits and pen-and-paper testing habits about which are more effective.

This is a book by an ISU professor on the effectiveness of interactions with online classes using 855 students enrolled in Computer Science 103.
