Class Participation and Group Work Grade - Midterm

Class Participation and Group Work Grade - Midterm

The policy document explains that 15% of your course grade will be determined by "class participation and short assignments." Twice during the semester (once at midterm and once at finals), you will receive a numeric grade that encompasses the following items:
  • Your contributions to class discussions, both positive and negative. In other words, thoughtful comments will help your grade, while comments that are off-topic or disrespectful of your fellow students will hurt your grade.
  • Your attentiveness in class, especially to your peers' comments. Remaining awake, alert, and focused will help your grade, while sleeping, web surfing, or carrying on side conversations will hurt your grade.
  • Your contribution to small group discussions/presentations.
This grade will be averaged with all of the shorter assignments (journal entries, revision workshops, etc.) you have completed for this course, although this grade is "weighted" a bit heavier than each of those small assignments. You do not need to submit anything for this "assignment," because you have been earning it throughout the semester.

If you are unhappy with your midterm participation grade, remember that you will receive another grade just like this one at the end of the term, and your "running total" in this category resets at the beginning of Week 9.
